Making Device Decommissioning Easy for Your IT Team
Device decommissioning doesn’t have to drain your IT department’s time or resources. Between managing upgrades, cybersecurity, and user support, your team already has enough to handle. That’s why Electronic Asset Security makes device decommissioning easy—we handle the heavy lifting, logistics, and certified destruction so your staff can stay focused on what really matters.
1. We Handle the Heavy Lifting
When it’s time to retire aging computers, servers, or networking gear, our trained technicians come to you.
We take care of:
- Pickup and logistics – Scheduled around your team’s availability
- Loading and palletizing – Safe, efficient removal from offices or server rooms
- Secure transport to our facility – We use our own trucking and staff to maintain a complete chain-of-custody from collection to destruction.
Your team doesn’t have to pack, lift, or chase paperwork. We do it all—securely and efficiently.
2. Secure Chain of Custody
From pickup to processing, every data-containing asset is handled securely within our R2v3-certified Urbandale facility.
Here’s what you can expect based on the services you choose:
Included with Standard Service:
- All data-containing media is physically shredded in bulk inside our certified facility.
- You receive basic confirmation of receipt, but no serialized reporting.
Optional “Audit & Inventory” Service:
- A detailed asset inventory report with model, type, and serial numbers captured before processing.
Optional Documentation (Certificate):
- A Certificate of Destruction or Recycling (itemized with all serial numbers) is provided only when this documentation is purchased.
Note:
A Bill of Lading is only issued when a third-party trucking provider is used for transport.
This structure ensures you receive the level of documentation and audit-readiness your organization requires — while maintaining a secure, compliant chain of custody for every asset we process.
3. Certified Data Destruction
Even retired devices can hold sensitive data. Every data-bearing item we collect is wiped or shredded according to NIST 800-88 standards.
EAS guarantees:
- Serial-number-level verification
- All accepted media remains in our custody until processed.
- All accepted media is either logically wiped or physically shredded in house.
- Accurate serialized reporting of all destroyed media under contract.
- All methods, processes, and records are audited by a 3rd party professional auditor on an annual basis.
Your IT team signs off knowing every byte is gone—verified, documented, and compliant.
4. Environmentally Responsible Recycling
Secure device decommissioning also means protecting Iowa’s environment.
As Iowa’s only R2v3-certified electronics recycler, we ensure every device and component is handled responsibly:
- Zero-landfill policy – Everything recyclable is processed, not discarded
- Verified downstream vendors – No overseas dumping
- Local processing – All destruction and recycling occur right here in Urbandale
We recycle nearly all electronics, but some materials require specialized handling.
Items We Don’t Accept (and Where to Take Them)
For safety and environmental reasons, EAS does not process:
- Fluorescent bulbs, CFLs, or ballasts:
→ Metro Waste Authority – Hazardous Waste Drop-Off
- Appliances containing Freon (refrigerators, AC units):
→ MidAmerica Recycling – Appliance Recycling Program
This helps ensure all materials—whether we take them or not—are recycled responsibly in Iowa.
5. Pricing and Service Transparency
We keep pricing simple and predictable. We keep our costs low by keeping our processes locally integrated. Most recycling is free for standard electronics, but items like televisions, printers, batteries, or CRT monitors may carry small fees.
